FAQ

We are a chimney sweep business, family run and based in Uckfield, East Sussex.

We have created a number of frequently asked questions that we are usually asked to answer when we receive a call, below, but please feel free to call us or contact us through our contact form if you wish to find out more or book an appointment. Our full list of services are available on our service page.

Do you provide a clean, friendly and value for money service?

Yes, we are members of the ICS (Institute of Chimney Sweeps) and always follow their code of practice. We sweep and test your chimney, making sure that you receive a certificate to ensure you can provide this to your home insurance in the event that it is requested.

Why do I need to get the chimney swept or cleaned?

You may be surprised about the sheer number of chimney fire accidents that occur every single year. Soot and ash is produced whenever burning occurs, this can build up very quickly and builds up a thick and sticky black tar like substance in the chimney flue. This creosote material can burn easily and create a chimney fire which releases deadly CO gases.

It's also very important to have the chimney swept or cleaned so that loose blockages can be removed as they can be a dangerous hazard. It's highly recommended to have the work carried out at least once a year and to ensure that the company you choose to use issues a certificate once the work has been done.

Do I need to use a traditional chimney sweep?

It's ideal as the brushes we use are specifically built to do the right job. Vacuum technology removes the risk of any soot or ash escaping into the room and then we professionally remove and dispose of it.

Which fires and stoves do you work on?

Any gas or solid / multi-fuel fireplace, inglenooks, Agas, kitchen stoves, log burning stoves and Raeburns. We'll also remove blockages including the removal of animal pests such as birds (pigeons) and squirrels from inside the chimney or flue. Plus, we'll carry out safety surveys and flue smoke tests.

What is smoke testing?

After a long period of being unused, a fireplace must be smoke tested to ensure that there are no major issues. The release of smoke should be tested as they can cause leaks through the chimney, in turn which can release fumes when used.
